Eager to invest in our community’s businesses

Winchester, Virginia’s civic leaders believe that one of the most important components of economic development is providing support to the city’s existing businesses. Helping those employers that are already committed to our city is an investment in an even healthier future.

Our economic development team works closely with local employers to ensure that their needs for growth and training and being met, and to help them take advantage of available incentive programs. Local utility officials share that commitment and work closely with business owners to support improvements and reduce costs.

A key element of the services available to businesses is ongoing training and education for their employees, and Laurel Ridge Community College’s Workforce Solutions program develops and delivers customized training on its campus or at employer sites. LRCC provides program developers and professional instructors who have real-world experience in their fields, so their instruction is focused on practical skill and knowledge that will be immediately applicable in the workplace. They can also develop customized onboarding training for new hires.

LRCC also offers a long list of existing courses that can help employees add to their skills in areas such as business and professional development, heavy equipment operator, certified welder, industrial technology, occupational safety, and obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). For professional services organizations and office employees, LRCC has business classes that include accounting, marketing, and computer information systems — and Shenandoah University offers MBA and Organizational Leadership programs.
